आहारस्त्वपि सर्वस्य त्रिविधो भवति प्रियः । यज्ञस्तपस्तथा दानं तेषां भेदमिमं शृणु ॥
āhāras tv api sarvasya trividho bhavati priyaḥ yajñas tapas tathā dānaṃ teṣāṃ bhedam imaṃ śṛṇu
Translation
The food also which is dear to each is threefold, as also sacrifice, austerity and almsgiving. Hear thou the distinction of these.

Explanation
A transition verse that also functions as a table of contents for the rest of the chapter: food, then sacrifice (yajña), austerity (tapas), and gift (dāna) will each get the sattva/rajas/tamas treatment in turn. That the Gita is willing to run something as mundane as diet through the same guna framework it uses for cosmology and ethics elsewhere is characteristic of Chapter 14’s totalizing approach — no domain of ordinary life sits outside the three-guna lens.
